RAKSHA BETTER THAN PHOONK…PAVAN SURVI

Film: Raksha
Rating: 2/5
Presented By:
Ram Gopal Varma
Cast: Jagapathi Babu, Kalyani, Satya Krishna, Rajeev Kanakala, Subba Raju, Pradeep Rawat, Baby Neha, Master Athulith etc
Music: Bapi-Tutul
Producers: Vijaya Lakshmi, Suryavathi and Chandra Sekhar
Direction: Akella Vamsi Krishna
Released On: 19th Sep 2008

Story:
Rajeev (Jagapathi Babu) is an Engineering Contractor who lives with his wife (Kalyani) and two kids. He happens to develop strife with two of his business partners and kicks them out of his house publicly when a party was going on. This pumps in a fire of vengeance in the woman (Satya Krishna) who gets kicked out by him. She takes revenge on Rajeev by spelling black magic on his school going daughter Raksha (Neha). Rajeev is an atheist and his wife is theist. Struggle and friction of opinions arise in his house as Raksha becomes the victim of black magic. Both medical science and occult science compete with each other to protect Raksha. Finally, who wins-the medical science or the occult science or both?? That becomes the climax.

Performances:
Jagapathi Babu excelled in the role of a practical man as well as caring father. Kalyani’s role is minimal and there is lesser scope for her to show off histrionics. Satya Krishna has over acted and appeared to be funny instead of scary. Pradeep Rawat has perfectly gelled with the role he played.

Baby Neha must be appreciated for her performance. No wonder of she can be nominated for best child artiste award.

And coming to technical departments, the sound effects are weak which need to be spine chilling for the genre of horror. And the art work that has to be ghastly is also not designed well. On a whole, the director missed the tempo to create fear in the movie. Hence the fear factor didn’t glue on to celluloid.

Analysis:
It has already released in Hindi with the title ‘Phoonk’ but it has been publicized by Ram Gopal Varma specially that it has more fear factor than the original. But the fact is that the fear graph has fallen down from ‘Phoonk’ to ‘Raksha’. The main reason is the lack of proper grip in narration.

Telugu audiences generally consider horror films as B-grade stuff as many have already seen light in this genre. The quality of making and technical standards should be beyond a certain level to make it reach people in right way. Here except Jagapathi Babu Factor, there is nothing that goes in tune with the interest levels of audiences.

It is only the hype that was created by media, pulled audiences to theaters. And the crowd pulling names like RGV behind this flick, Jagapathi Babu and horror-genre would bring in a good set of audiences to theatres. But finally it cannot be called the great flick. One wise thing, that’s observed here, is that it is made with very low budget and hence commercially it may go safe.

mallepuvu review….not so THRILING

Film: Mallepuvvu

Rating: 1/5

Cast: Murali Krishna, Bhumika, RK, Kovai Sarala, Sameer, Venu Madhav, Farzana etc Story: Ramesh Varma

Dialogues: Vema Giri

Songs: Veturi

Art: Ramana Vanka

Fights: Nandu Editor: Nandamuri Hari

Camera: Anil Bhandari

Producer: Mohan Vadlapatla

Screenplay-Direction: Samudra Released On: 19th Sep 2008 Story: Koti (Murali Krishna) is a young man who aspires to go Dubai as daily laborer. He saves every penny for fulfilling his desire by working as a coolie at a contractor couple (RK and Kovai Sarala). His friend (Samudra) stands beside him all the while and he aspires to go China!!!!. A new girl comes in the disguise of a man with name Malligadu (Bhumika) and joins at the same contractor as another laborer. The mystery revolves around her. Why she keeps her identity in disguise and what made her join as a coolie forms the major part of the movie. Presentation: New face Murali Krishna is ok to large extent. Samudra’s long role is something new and still he didn’t bring out all necessary histrionics in the degree required. It sounds wise for him to restrict himself as director than as an actor. Bhumika is perfect in her role. Venu Madhav’s comedy is below average. Abhinayasree appeared in a vamp like role without any glamour. Farzana’s item song appeals for a section of audiences. Comedy between RK and Kovai Sarala is also not up to the mark. Telengana Shakunthala’s presence as brothel house head is felt and she has shown her talent with trade mark style. Others are just ok. Coming to technical departments, Ilayaraja spoiled his name with worst music output. No song is pleasing to ears and not even a B-grade film in 80s had this quality. Dialogues are very poor and killed the interest of people in entire first half. Direction is erratic and not gripping. Analysis: It’s stunning to see Samudra as second hero in this film. He appears to be taking the path of Kodi Rama Krishna who used to play ‘so-called’ key roles in his films earlier. Looking at the quality of the film, a doubt strikes every one that how big names like Bhumika and Ilayaraja agreed to work for this film. The story might have sounded good for them in the first narration of Samdura but once he brought it on to celluloid dish turned perishable. Indeed, Mallepuvvu lost its fragrance. Samudra made many blunders in his direction and a feel of compromise and lack of seriousness is seen in him. Lip-sink and dialogues are also not well tackled although it is a direct movie in Telugu. First 30 minutes test the patience of audience with slow narration and weak dialogues. Only the four minutes before interval pumps in little interest and second half goes with some flesh in it. Again the climax is spoiled with B-grade quality. Notable blunders committed by the director. * The terrorists are shown like roadside goondas with small knives in climax fight * Bhumika travels between Dhaka and Hyderabad in British Airways (!!) * Bhumika is not illiterate but University Topper. No one knows why she maintains dumbness without letting out her problem to media and her parents on phone. Weak points: Music Dialogues Screenplay Direction Only Plus Point: Cinematography On a whole, the film proved to be a dud with no quality narration and sensibility. It lacked in the home work that is required while making a film with the subject-‘terrorism’.

SAROJA….ROCKS WITH CLIMAX N STORY

Movie Review:Saroja
Rating :3/5
Banner :Amma Creations & Pyramid Saimira Entertainment Pvt Ltd
Cast :Prakashraj, Srihari, Shiva, Premji, Vaibhav, Sharan, Kajal Aggarwal, Vega, Nikitha, Sampath & others
Music: Yuvanshankar Raja
Cinematographer: Sakthi Saravanan
Producer: T Siva
Director: Venkat Prabhu
Released Date: September 05, 2008

Story:
An interesting tale, the story begins with four people in the city of Chennai, two of them brothers - Rangaswamy (Charan) and Ramaswamy (Vaibhav), Ganesh (Premji), Ajay (Sharan) out of whom Rangaswamy is married and his wife keeps complaining about the other three. The four decide to go for a cricket match between India and Pakistan in Hyderabad from Chennai and they hire a van to go by road. On the other hand, there is Saroja (Vega) who is the rich and only daughter of industrialist Viswanath (Prakashraj) who is totally focused on business and nothing else. Incidentally, Saroja gets kidnapped and Viswa takes the help of his police friend ACP Ravichandran (Srihari) to solve the case. Meanwhile, the four chaps get stuck on the highway due to a major accident and the oversmart Ajay takes them through a short cut kind of route. In this process, they get lost and their paths cross with the kidnappers who actually take Saroja. Leading them is Sampath (Sampath) and what follows from there is a tale of ups and downs leading to an interesting climax with an unexpected turn. What is the suspense? Who is Sampath? All this forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come out with a single line plot but he has been able to keep the audience busy with excellent presentation and a very good narration. The major credit goes to the music which was top notch and the cinematography which was remarkable. The pace of the movie was quite good, dialogues were witty, script was loose at few ends but overall better, screenplay was impressive. Editing could have been better during the second half, the locations were excellent and the lighting effects were simply superb. Vaibhav has come up with a good performance and he seems to be having a good screen presence, Charan was alright, Sharan looked plastic at few times but ok. The real show stealer was Premji Amaran whose character was worth a laugh, Prakashraj carried out his role with diligence while Srihari looked apt for the cop. Kajal came and went, she was not required for the role. Nikitha is really hot, one really wonders how she has been missed all this while. Sampath looked apt as the bad guy, the others did their bit with elan.

Conclusion:
Taking a single line plot and converting into a two plus hours is a great challenge and the makers have not failed in this attempt. There was not a time when the audience was caught idling. While the first half starts on a slow mode, the plot eventually picks up and the momentum picks up. The second half was equally good but then the climax part got stretched a bit too long, however the twist in the climax is a surprise. The comedy angle was good but the usage of ‘Sir’ between the friends looked a bit eccentric. Technically, a very well made film and commercially the film will surely shine if its visibility and propaganda is done correctly.

PAVAN SURVI Verdict : Different and well taken, can be watched once!!!

ANKIT,PALLAVI N FRIENDS MOVIE REVIEW -PAVAN SURVI

Movie Review:Ankit, Pallavi & Friends
Rating :2/5
Banner :Innovation cinema
Cast :Nikhil Siddharth, Megha Burman, Surya, Pradeep, Venu, Naresh, Sita and others
Music: Vinu Thomas
Cinematography: Dasari Malini
Producer: Ganji Kishore & Raghu
Director: Hari Yelleti
Released Date: September 05, 2008

STORY..
A youthful treat, the story begins with Pallavi (Megha) who is a topper in her academics and holds a lucrative job in an IT firm and on the contrast are her group of friends Ankit (Nikhil), Sunil (Surya) and others. Ankit is all about music and in this process he also fails his degree exams, even his other friends are not much into anything except for one who wants to go to US. Ankit wants to make it big in the music world but does not get the right break, meanwhile love blossoms between Ankit and Pallavi. In no time, cracks start to appear since Pallavi believes in a white collared job and is not confident about Ankit’s abilities and his plans. On the other hand, Ankit is adamant about himself and his confidence. Incidents build up one after the other and both end up parting ways. Later on, Ankit does manage to get a break and also his friends who have been lying idle for quite some time get into something worthwhile solving their personal issues too. Both Ankit and Pallavi miss each other but soon Ankit grows to become a well known musician. But do they get to meet? What happens to the clashes take place between them? How does the friends group manage to get a direction in their life? All this forms the rest of the story.

Presentation:
The director has come out with a concept which is appealing but then he has not been able to conceive it very well on the screen. The presentation was alright but the narrative lacked structure, the amateurish efforts were clearly visible in almost every scene. Dialogues were alright, script was weak, screenplay was just about okay. The main highlight for the film is the music and the songs which have come out really well. The camera department also has done a decent job, editing was brittle and the rhythm of the film was quite disoriented. Nikhil has yet again come up with an energetic performance but then he was overreacting at few sensitive emotional scenes, even his dance prowess was not used to the fullest. Megha was cute, looked very good in few angles however her acting still needs to get more polished. Surya was a real show stealer with his acting and performance. Naresh looked quite weak while Sita was not able to deliver her real potential. The other artistes were unknown but they came up with a natural performance. The performance department has been alright.

Conclusion:
While the storyline was not much in the film, it was important to keep the script in grip and make it as structured as possible. While the first half was on the lighter mode with friendship, romance and comedy it is the second half when things take a sentimental turn and the romance element is shown in different formats. The major drawback for the film is the director himself who could not present his thoughts in an organized manner. He has also failed in extracting the best performance from the artistes. The youth audience will find this appealing but there is nothing for the mass or the serious audience. Commercially, the film might get back its investment but a hit is ruled out.

Pavan Survi Verdict : Average treat….

He generates Power through his performance in the hearts of millions of fans. He is the perfect address for new trends and styles in Tollywood. He has the best hair style so far in Telugu Film Industry. His smile creates ripples in millions of young girls. The one and only Hero in Tollywood Industry whose movies will have excellent collections at the Box-Office prior to the result of the movies. His fights and dances are his trademarks. The only Hero who showed Telugu Movie Stamina to World Box-office. He is a worker who wants to serve for the people. He is the Powerful brother to Megastar of Tollywood. He is a Creative Genius, Trend-setter and the real Power of Tollywood. He is none other than Powerstar Pawan Kalyan. Powerstar Pawan Kalyan celebrates his 36th Birthday on 2nd September.i Pavan Survi wish him a very Memorable Birthday and provide all Pawan fans with cool stuff about him.

Personal Life:

Pawan Kalyan (born as Konidela Kalyan) is a popular Telugu cinema actor and a film director. Fondly known as Power Star by his fans, Pawan Kalyan’s notable movies include Tholi Prema (1998), Thammudu (1999), Badri (2000), Khushi (2001) and Jalsa (2008). He is the younger brother of popular Telugu actor - Chiranjeevi and actor/producer Nagendra Babu.Pawan Kalyan was born in Chirala, Andhra Pradesh, India to Sri Venkat Rao and Smt Anjana Devi Happy BirthDay Pawan
Marriage Life:

Pawan Kalyan was first married to Nandini, currently he is involved in a live-in relationship (so called Saha-Jeevanam by Pavan) with Renu Desai. Renu was the female lead in the films Badri, Johnny. The couple have a son named Akira Nandan, named after his favourite director Akira Kurosawa.

Film Career:

Pawan Kalyan entered Telugu movie industry with ‘Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi’ as Kalyan Babu. Though this film did not do well at the box office, Pawan Kalyan was noticed for his expertise in Martial Arts. For showing his martial arts talent in movie Akkada Ammayi Ikkada Abbayi our Ex-Chief minister Nara chandra babu naidu had given Name(Birudu) as Pawan. From that time his name has been changed as Pawan Kalyan.

His second movie ‘Gokulamlo Sita’ was an average flick but his next movie ‘Suswagatham’ was a big hit. Through this film, Pawan was proved as a good actor.

In 1998, ‘Tholi Prema’ was released. It started initially on a low profile but the treatment and the storyline along with melodious music by Deva took the movie to great heights and remained a TrendSetter Film in the Telugu Film industry and changed the face of Youth Films. And so did the image of Pawan Kalyan. Tholi Prema, a milestone movie in Pawan Kalyan’s career, made the audience recognize the depth of talent in him.

‘Thammudu’, another blockbuster followed, is a remake of ‘Jo Jeetha Wohi Sikkandar’ with a difference that Pawan Kalyan is a kickboxer. In this film, Pawan excelled in every department especially in comedy department. He also sang some bit songs in the film which went well with the masses.

‘Badri’, directed by Poori Jagannath starring Pawan Kalyan, Amisha Patel and Renu Desai is carried to a success range solely by Pawan Kalyan. This movie is a perfect example for Single-Man-Show. Pawan Kalyan is, as reported by media by then, involves himself in other aspects of the film too. Though few criticize that, it’s his responsibility and commitment to the project that makes him take care of everything. And of course, it worked each and every time.

‘Kushi’, released in 2001, created records. ‘Kushi’, his 7th movie, went on to get a gross of 20 crores, which TFI has never seen tell then. Even though, the movie is a remake of tamil film some changes were made to the film by Pawan himself. He composed fights, songs and some comedy scenes. All of them worked out as highlights in the movie.

After Kushi, Pawan Kalyan was in Japan for a brief period learning Akido martial art. That’s for his debut directoral film ‘Johnny’ . The film had Renu Desai as lead actress. This movie is a great example for Pawan’s stamina with fans trying to buy and wear costumes which Pawan sported in the film. The film is a disaster at the boxoffice but the movie has touching moments and became a canvas of Pawan’s directoral skills.

‘Gudumba Shankar’ released in 2001. This film has Pawan Kalyan written all over it. Stunts and songs are conceptualized by Pawan Kalyan. He also got the credits for screenplay. The film is a good family entertainer. However that was not what his fans were expecting. The film did average business at the boxoffice.

Later Vyjayanthi Films released ‘Balu’ in 2005 . This film is directed by Karunakaran who directed tholi Prema. Its a cool lovestory with action touch and was applauded equally by one and all.

Bangaram‘,Although it opened with extraordinary collections grossing almost 10 crores opening week. Yet, it left the producer with a cool 4 crore profit but film failed miserably. Pawan showed his interest to work in variety of films through this flick. In this film, he acted without a heroine which is rare in Telugu Film Industry.

Annavaram’ was released on December 29, 2006 by getting a good response and proved to be a Average collections at box office.

Jalsa’, released in 2008, is the most widely released South Indian picture ever - in about 1000 theaters released worldwide. And the only film to get nearly 42Cr’s in just 50 days of its run. That’s an unbreakable record set by PawanKalyan. The film was released in the US with 18 prints. Jalsa is the first South Indian movie to be listed in the top ten of American based ‘Box Office Mojo’. This site surveys all of the movies released in the world and provides their gross earnings. Jalsa stood 9th in its listings for the weekend of April 2-4th, 2008. Jalsa also created records in highest ring-tones download. Jalsa also completed 50 days in 282 centres and celebrated 100 days in 25 centers only.

Social Work:

Pawan has started an organization called Common Man Protection Force(CMPF) in October 2007. He has contributed 1 crore INR towards the corpus fund, CMPF aims to solve the social problems, help the neglected sections of the society, in India. He makes sure that all this films have a message for the viewers, making them aware of the problems in the society and quest towards the solutions. He is a person who always questions his motives constantly.

The above information shows us the real Power of Pawan Kalyan. He will be coming shortly as ‘Puli’ to roar at the box-office records of Tollywood. No doubt, he is the strong contender for Top Chair of Tollywood in future.

WISHING A VERY HAPPY BIRTHDAY
TO
THE POWER OF TOLLYWOOD.

Rock On Movie Review…by PavanSurvi

Some old photographs in a box - forgotten friends and dreams - a compromised life - success without happiness - a chance meeting with an old friend and nothing to talk - picking up the pieces of an unfinished story - that’s Rock on.

Many of us have gone through such feelings, when we have lost our most dear friends because of reasons beyond our understanding. When we pick up old photographs of those lost friends and find them meaningless and meaningful at the same time. What a time it was!! Did all that happened in this birth? Somehow, that is where this movie connects. Infact, that is why movies like Jaane tu and Dil Chahta Hai connected. All of us saw ourselves right there on the screen.

Rock On is a story of four friends who create a rock band called Magik. Aditya Shroff is the lead vocalist (played by Farhan Akhtar) who pens down unconventional poetry and give the band a unique voice. Joe is the lead guitarist (played by Arjun Rampal) who is very idealistic and does not believe in compromising with his principles or music. He is talented but does not know how to do the lobbying. Kedar Zaveri or K.D. is the drummer (played by Purab Kohli) who is the sole successor of a family of jewelers but prefers his drums to the suffocating family business. He is the joker of the gang and the most lively character in the movie. Rob is the keyboard player (played by Luke Kenny) who is the most level headed member of the band, someone you can rely upon to resolve the problems in minutes.

Everything was going fine and the band won the Channel V contract for an Album when the Band disintegrated and the success story died before its inception. The four of them went their own ways forgetting each other and leading a life which they never wanted to lead till Aditya’s wife (played by Prachi Desai) meets Kedar by chance ten years later and then comes across some long forgotten photographs of her husband’s life about which she was completely unaware. And thus starts the uphill task of the band’s reunion.

Rock on does not have the flamboyance of Dil Chahta Hai but is more grounded in reality. It does not reaches the standards set by DCH but is very believable in its own way. Yes, you can draw parallels but then you can do that with 99% of the movies in Bollywood. The movie works at many levels. The strings of your heart will be stirred.

The movie does not belong to a single actor. All the four lead actors never leave the skin of their roles. Arjun Rampal shows a maturity which was unexpected while Farhan is able to bring out the subtle difference in his character during the ten year span even though this is his first movie as an actor. Although he is the most successful of the four members of his band after the split, he is still angry about the way his life has turned up and it shows in his strained relationship with his wife. Prachi is the surprise package of the movie. She acts like a seasoned actress and it does not look at all that this is her first film. The scene in which she tells Aditya that she is pregnant is her best. Shabana Goswami Koel Purie as Joe’s wife is also perfect in her role of a frustrated woman who has to give up her dreams to run the business of her failed husband.

On the negative side, the movie picks up pace in the second half and does not have much of a comic dose which seems to be quite essential for the Indian audience(specially since they are lapping up crude movies with 15 over the top comic sequences). Also the movie trudges too close to the abyss of a typical Bollywood movie towards the end and it is on the verge of loosing its unique identity.

The music composed by Shankar Ehsaan Loy is very apt and suits the mood of the movie like a glove. And the concert at the end of the movie will want you to get up and dance. A good story, crazy music, well etched roles and good acting. What else do we want?

To Announce Party Name At Tirupati Meet

TIMES NEWS NETWORK

Hyderabad: Standing under pictures of Mahatma Gandhi, Mother Teresa, Babasaheb Ambedkar and Jyotibha Phule whose teachings he said had transformed him, Telugu megastar Chiranjeevi on Sunday announced his entry into politics and went on to state that his main “opponent” was neither the Congress or TDP but “poverty”. He added: “I am neither a leftist nor a rightist, but a humanist.”
Stating that he was bidding adieu to his “30-year-long pleasure trip in the movie world,” Chiranjeevi promised to unveil his political agenda, policies and programme on August 26 at a public meeting at Tirupati. The actor who turns 53 on Friday said that he would work for a “blissful” and “cheerful” Andhra Pradesh “where people do not suffer.”
Conducting the press conference all by himself, unassisted by aides, the megastar avoided giving straight answers to the volley of questions directed at him by a huge assembly of mediapersons who had descended on his office to attend his maiden conference. On several issues like the precise reasons for kickstarting a political party, his views on separate Telangana, the issue of naxalism, on the relevance of Congress and TDP, Chiranjeevi parried replies saying they were “sensitive issues” and that he would react at an “appropriate time”. Asked about how many seats he expected to win in the next elections, Chiranjeevi said (in the true fashion of a practising politician) :”I’m not entering politics for power of for office but for social service. Social justice and welfare of the poor would be high on my agenda”.
Pressed on how he would react to difficult issues, Chiranjeevi said that his sensitivity would be his strength. “Being sensitive, I can understand the pain of the people better than the present day politicians,” he declared. Though indicating that his would be a party with a social welfare orientation, Chiranjeevi made no reference to inflation or other serious issues confronting the state like mindless destruction of the environment uprooting of people by big projects and problems faced by rural poor.
Chiranjeevi, who rose from the ranks in Tollywood also did not provide any elaborate political or sociological reasoning for jumping into electoral politics at this point of time. But in true filmy style he referred to two suicide notes— one by a Home Guard and another by an IT couple who lamented that they were embracing death without having got a chance for voting for Chiranjeevi. He said that the call given by former president Dr A P J Abdul Kalam to professionals to enter politics had influenced him. He also “bowed” his head before intellectual, artists, women and students, who had urged him to join politics and declared that it would be a blunder not to respond to their invitation.
Interestingly, Chiranjeevi paid rich tributes to NTR, the founder of Telugu Desam Party, for having inspired him in more than one way. True to his non-controversial nature, on the two major parties Congress and TDP he said, “Everybody is doing work in their own way. But, we want to take that further to the grassroot level, and do things in a different manner.” He would not be drawn into criticising them.
Megastar loses close aide
Chiranjeevi’s close friend, Hari Prasad suffered a heart attack while appearing on the prime time live news of a private channel on Sunday. He was rushed to a nearby private hospital, where he succumbed while undergoing treatment. Hari Prasad, 55, was Chiranjeevi’s classmate at the Madras Film Institute. He acted as a hero in the 1978 Tollywood cult movie, ‘Sivaranjani’ and essayed roles in over 100 movies in Telugu and Kannada. He had also produced some of Chiranjeevi’s blockbuster movies. While expressing his views on Chiranjeevi’s entry into politics, Hari Prasad suddenly collapsed at the TV studio. At around 10.30 pm, Hari Prasad was declared dead by doctors. Chiranjeevi visited the hospital. Chiru out to woo women
Hyderabad: “I’m liking it. This role is quite different,” Chiranjeevi told The Times of India in a brief conversation after addressing his fans impromptu. That was a brief while after the hour-long press conference. Visibly pleased with how he performed in front of the cameras and the huge crowd that thronged his office, Chiranjeevi said the response of the crowd as seen indicates how they were feeling.
“And you can see how I am feeling about it. My role as a politician is unlike what I have done before. How do you assess it?” he asked, his infectious smile on.
If Chiranjeevi slipped into the role of his life on Sunday, younger brother Pavan Kalyan, an actor with a huge fans base himself, got into a role that he conceived for himself. Kalyan decided to be a protective shield around his brother - a role that he will continue performing.
On the first day of his life as a politician, Chiranjeevi brought about some changes in his style. He was constantly trying to give more prominence to women in the crowd. This obviously was with a purpose - too woo them to vote for him. He said that women would be given due recognition in the party.
When a large crowd gathered in front of his party office and he addressed them, Chiranjeevi bent as far as his body could permit him to identify the women in the crowd. Pointing out to them, he said: “I did not expect you all to come, “ and thanked them for their support.
Even at the crowded press conference that he addressed, he strained his eye to look for women reporters and entertained questions from them.
With chief minister Y S Rajasekhara Reddy and TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu also out to woo the women folk to vote for them in the next elections, it is Chiranjeevi who, it appears, will work his charms on them.
“It is a consciously thought of plan to connect with womenfolk. It is a strategy that he thinks will work in his favour,” an insider in the Chiranjeevi camp said.
Chiranjeevi’s body language too, his aides predicted would take him closer to the masses. The masses will get to see a new act of the megastar with ‘a clenched fist, a thumbs up sign, a salute and a wave’ when he greets them. That is being different from Chandrababu Naidu who waves his hand with a ‘V’ sign and Y S Rajasekhara Reddy who waves his hand.
Analysts say that on August 26 when he addresses a public meeting at Tirupati, the public would see more of Chiranjeevi’s action much as he wants to tell them that he will now ‘live my role as a politician than having to act as one’.

singh is king review……..

Just a word of caution before you watch this film: SINGH IS KINNG is not for the intellectuals or those pretending to be one. It’s not for the hard-nosed critics either.

Now read on…

Vipul Shah. Anees Bazmee. Akshay Kumar. Katrina Kaif. Four names for whom success has become a habit. That makes SINGH IS KINNG the most awaited movie of the season. Must add, the wait was worth it!

singh is king You know the rules when you watch a hardcore entertainer: Just don’t look for logic. If you do, too bad for you, for you would never enjoy a film of this genre and more specifically, SINGH IS KINNG.

Anees Bazmee’s films are very high on entertainment. The plotline may be paper-thin, perhaps ludicrous and farcical, but when did Bazmee ever promise a SCHINDLER’S LIST or a SAVING PRIVATE RYAN? SINGH IS KINNG works because it delivers what it promises: Full on entertainment!

Bazmee has the knack of making immensely watchable fares that cater to the aam junta. SINGH IS KINNG isn’t a laughathon in entirety. Comedy, romance, action and drama, everything is well synchronised in those 2.10 hours here.

But, wait, SINGH IS KINNG isn’t a foolproof product. It has its share of flaws, the turn of events aren’t captivating at times, but SINGH IS KINNG moves so fast and packs in so much, there’s no time to think or analyze.

The final word? SINGH IS KINNG is a delicious and scrumptious pav-bhaji served in the finest cutlery. Your taste buds are sure to relish it… and ask for more!

Lakhan Singh aka Lucky [Sonu Sood] is the King of the Australian underworld, accompanied by his associates [played by Javed Jaffrey, Neha Dhupia, Manoj Pahwa, Yashpal Sharma, Kamal Chopra and Sudhanshu Pande]. Far away, in a small village in Punjab, where Lucky was born, there exists someone more notorious than him - Happy Singh [Akshay Kumar].

The village is fed up of Happy’s magnanimity, which has resulted in a number of hilariously disastrous situations. Out of desperation, they decide to send him on a long trip [that will keep him out of the village for a while!] to bring Lucky back to Punjab, as his despicable deeds were maligning their image in Australia.

The happy-go-lucky bumpkin, taking his mission a bit too seriously, embarks on his journey, accompanied by his friend, Rangeela [Om Puri], who hates Happy for dragging him into it.

The high point of his journey is his chance meeting with Sonia [Katrina Kaif], with whom he falls in love, but upon reaching his destination, things take a precarious turn as he runs into a series of comic misadventures, leaving him penniless. He is fortunate to find warmth and affection in an elderly lady [Kirron Kher].

In a strange turn of events, an attempt on Lucky’s life is foiled by a well-intentioned Happy, who fights off the attackers by risking his own life. Following the altercation, Lucky lands up in hospital paralyzed and Happy, unexpectedly, finds the tables turned on him when he is expected to assume the role of the new King.

Few minutes into the film and you know that SINGH IS KINNG is a lavish spectacle that’s high on entertainment. Sonu Sood chasing a gora assassin at the very start or minutes later, Akshay chasing a hen - SINGH IS KINNG starts with gusto.

And Bazmee doesn’t let you wear your thinking caps all through the first hour. From India to Egypt to Australia, from the comforts of his home in Punjab, to the humble abode of a woman selling flowers in Sydney [Kirron Kher], SINGH IS KINNG involves you in the journey.

And then Akshay becomes the King. Oh, how he becomes the King is equally hilarious. The sequence at the hospital [Sonu Sood is diagnosed with a weird disorder] is simply hilarious. There’s a twist in the tale at the intermission point and the second hour, therefore, shifts gears - it changes from kabhi funny, kabhi drama to a prem kahani.

It’s smooth sailing till there’s another twist towards the pre-climax [wouldn’t like to reveal it, since it would act as a spoiler]. But, frankly, the film could’ve done without this track. The narrative, thankfully, is back on tracks soon after.

Anees Bazmee has a flair for writing great entertainers that work big time with the masala-loving junta. If you’ve loved NO ENTRY and WELCOME, you’d love SINGH IS KINNG too. This time, Bazmee shares the writing credits with Suresh Nair and the duo come up with some real wacky episodes. In terms of production design, this is Bazmee’s most lavish fare so far. It’s a grandiose product.

Pritam’s music is already popular and it compliments the goings-on completely. ‘Bhootni Ke’, ‘Jee Karda’ and the title track stand out, while ‘Teri Ore’ is easy on the nerves. Ben Nott and Sanjay Gupta’s cinematography is top notch.

Akshay Kumar takes rapid strides with SINGH IS KINNG. Sure, you’ve seen him in comic fares time and again and perhaps, there might be a doubt, Will he carry it off yet again? Oh yes, he does! There’s no saturation point as far as this actor is concerned. He holds your attention in every sequence, irrespective of how strong the scene is, and that’s the biggest compliment for any actor. SINGH IS KINNG without Akki is like an ocean without marine life. Akshay rules!

The camera loves Katrina Kaif and it shows in SINGH IS KINNG too. She looks bewitching and enacts her part with tremendous confidence. Kirron Kher is superb and so is Om Puri. Terrific performances! They compliment Akki so well. Ranvir Shorey is first-rate. Sonu Sood is another actor who’s finally getting his due in Hindi films. Javed Jaffrey’s character works big time till he does a somersault in the pre-climax. Neha Dhupia is engaging. The nok-jhonk between Sudhanshu Pandey and Yashpal Sharma is perfect. Manoj Pahwa is good.

On the whole, SINGH IS KINNG lives up to the hype and hoopla. Want a joyride without taxing your brains? Board the SINGH IS KINNG wagon. At the box-office, the film will fetch a hurricane-like start. The paid previews, the opening weekend, the first week business, everything will be record-shattering. Notwithstanding the new oppositions in the weeks to come, SINGH IS KINNG will rule the hearts of the aam junta [whose verdict matters the most] as also the box-office, proving a record holder in the final tally. Blockbuster Hit!
